W2W Volunteer Mentor:

As a volunteer you will use your personal experience to provide emotional support and information to women and their families in a variety of settings. Visits will include inpatient bedside visits, visits to chemotherapy and radiation centers and visits at the outpatient clinics. You may also interact with patients by phone, e-mail, or other methods of correspondence that you and the patient and comfortable with.

As a Women to Woman volunteer you will receive comprehensive, ongoing training so that you can provide comfort and much needed support to the newly diagnosed patient. There will be regular meetings so that you too are provided with emotional support from the Program Coordinator and fellow volunteers. Meetings are also used for ongoing education with guest speakers on topics suggested by volunteers.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor it must be one year since you finished treatment. We accept Mentor applications all year, and interview potential mentors. If you are interested in learning more please contact Kathleen Maxian, BSW – Program Coordinator at [email protected]

The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance is the founding sponsor of this program. In 2016 the Ovarian Cancer Project was awarded a one-time start up grant from the OCRFA to establish the Woman to Woman Program in Western New York State. The Ovarian Cancer Project was honored to be one of the two first community organizations to be awarded this grant.
